What the Essay Said
Emilie Pelletier published this piece on January 24, 2018. She opened with the familiar names, Oprah, Tiger Woods, Jim Carrey, who credit visualization as a career tool, then asked why most people still never use it. Her own conversion came from Maxwell Maltz’s book Psycho-Cybernetics and her later study of hypnosis and NLP.
The essay laid out four research backed reasons the technique works, including the finding that the brain processes a vividly imagined scenario much like a real experience, which is why mental rehearsal can build skill and confidence before the event. It became one of the most cited self improvement pieces MAQTOOB ran, referenced by G2’s Learn hub, Mailshake’s sales blog, and coaching and HR writers.
