Hiveage Overview
Hiveage is a cloud-based invoicing and billing platform for freelancers, small businesses and entrepreneurs. It lets users create and send professional invoices, track payments and manage recurring billing, and Hiveage Inc. says it now serves 75,000 small businesses across more than 150 countries from its base in Boston.
The platform supports multiple payment gateways, so clients can pay securely online. Hiveage also covers expense tracking, time tracking, mileage and reporting, and it carries a long history: the product grew out of Curdbee, which is why some long-standing reviewers still refer to it by that name.

Pros
| Competitor | Pros of Hiveage |
|---|---|
| FreshBooks | Hiveage’s free plan costs nothing and still carries 5 clients with unlimited invoices, estimates, time tracking and expense tracking. FreshBooks has no free tier at all: its cheapest Lite plan is $23 a month and it caps billable clients at 5 as well, so Hiveage hands you the same client ceiling for free. |
| QuickBooks | Hiveage stays on billing, which is why the whole ladder tops out at $49 a month for 1,000 clients and 10 team members. QuickBooks Online opens at $38 a month for Simple Start and runs to $275 for Advanced, and much of that price buys double-entry accounting a freelancer never opens. |
| Zoho Invoice | Hiveage adds mileage tracking and genuine team seats — 5 members on the $29 Pro plan, 10 on Plus — along with API access and hands-on migration help at the top tier. Zoho Invoice is a single free product with nothing to grow into once you need those things. |
| Xero | Hiveage lets you send invoices and take payments without building a chart of accounts, and there is a $0 tier to start on. Xero’s cheapest Early plan is $25 a month and limits you to 20 invoices and 5 bills, so a freelancer sending 40 invoices has to move up to Growing at $55. |
Cons
| Competitor | Cons of Hiveage |
|---|---|
| FreshBooks | Time and expense tracking are actually unlimited on every Hiveage plan, but there are no bank feeds and no double-entry books behind them. FreshBooks bundles bank connections and accounting reports into its $23 Lite plan, which starts to matter once you need more than invoice-level numbers. |
| QuickBooks | Hiveage has no bank reconciliation, tax tracking or general ledger. QuickBooks Online covers all three from Simple Start upward, so a business that files its own returns will still be running a second system alongside Hiveage. |
| Zoho Invoice | Zoho Invoice is free, while Hiveage charges $19 a month for Basic purely to unlock financial reports and lift the client limit from 5 to 50. Zoho also plugs straight into the rest of the Zoho suite. |
| Xero | Xero includes unlimited users on every plan and full double-entry accounting from its entry tier. Hiveage stops at 5 team members on Pro and 10 on Plus and keeps no ledger, so it does not scale the same way for a growing company. |
Reviews
- Capterra Review (Rating: 4.9/5 from 49 reviews): One long-term user called Hiveage a “perfect lightweight SME invoicing” solution and said it strikes the right balance between simplicity and functionality, with an interface that lets them “breeze through invoicing with minimal effort.” Reviewers also single out the customisation options and the support team. Another felt the subscription cost was high for features they were not yet using and wanted a cheaper entry plan. GetApp and Software Advice publish the same Gartner Digital Markets review pool, so this figure covers all three.
- G2 Review (Rating: 4.4/5 from 11 reviews): Hiveage helps teams create invoices “in just a few minutes” and track payments easily, with real-time email notifications when bills get paid. Reviewers highlighted the intuitive interface, accurate reports and analyses, and fast technical support, and several stated they had no complaints about the platform.
- Trustpilot Review (TrustScore 3.7/5, based on a single review): A customer who has used Hiveage since its Curdbee.com days reported 4 to 5 years without “a single glitch” and described it as a great billing system. One review is far too small a sample to read as a score, so treat it as one account rather than a rating.
