TriNet Zenefits Overview
TriNet Zenefits is a legacy name. TriNet now describes its related offers as HR Platform, the self-service HR technology formerly known as TriNet Zenefits, and HR Plus, an administrative services organization (ASO) combining the platform with access to HR expertise and support.
TriNet PEO is a separate full-service professional employer organization offering. It should not be conflated with the former Zenefits technology or with HR Plus. Buyers should confirm which current service fits their payroll, benefits, compliance and support needs.

Pros
| Alternative | Where the current TriNet offering can stand out |
|---|---|
| Rippling | Access to HR expertise through HR Plus and a separate full-service PEO path for organizations that want more service. |
| Paychex | A connected route from self-service HR technology to ASO or PEO support within one provider. |
| Justworks | Multiple service models for buyers who need either software-led administration or a broader PEO relationship. |
| ADP | Industry-oriented HR guidance and a choice between HR Platform, HR Plus and PEO services. |
| Paylocity | A broader services layer for employers that want HR expertise in addition to workforce software. |
Cons
| Alternative | Where TriNet may be less suitable |
|---|---|
| Rippling | Product naming and service boundaries can require more buyer diligence, and current pricing is not public. |
| Paychex | Organizations seeking a simple, transparent software-only purchase may find the quote process and service choices complex. |
| Justworks | Small teams may prefer a more standardized package with fewer distinctions between software, ASO and PEO services. |
| ADP | Large global organizations should compare geographic coverage, integrations and enterprise reporting in detail. |
| Paylocity | Buyers focused mainly on a conventional HR software suite may not need TriNet’s broader services structure. |
Reviews
- Trustpilot — legacy Zenefits profile (Rating: 2.2/5): The legacy profile includes substantial criticism of post-acquisition support, billing and migration experiences. It does not isolate the current HR Plus service and should be read as historical brand sentiment. The profile has 178 reviews.
- Business.com — TriNet HR Plus: The current editorial review praises customizable HR, payroll, benefits and compliance administration, while noting custom pricing, no free trial or sandbox and more limited phone support outside the PEO service. The editor score is 9.6/10.
- Reddit discussion: A former customer wrote: “formerly Trinet customer. concur with OP. Zenefits started out good until it became Trinet. Customer service was horrendous- asked me to wait in queue for them to call back when they are available. I ended up paying decent sum for penalties. We moved on to OnPay. Gusto is also good”. This is one dated customer account, not proof of current official pricing or policy.
- Software Advice — TriNet HR Plus (Rating: 4.2/5): Users often value one-stop payroll, tax and compliance workflows and customizable reports. Critical feedback mentions unintuitive vacation requests, clunky payroll steps and support cases closed before resolution. The score is based on 823 reviews.
- Merchant Maverick — broad TriNet review (Rating: 4.1/5): The current review distinguishes TriNet PEO, HR Plus and HR Platform. It rates the broader brand strongly for HR, payroll, benefits and features, while flagging undisclosed pricing, mixed support experiences and integration limits.
- G2 — TriNet HR Plus (Rating: 3.9/5): The profile identifies HR Plus as the ASO successor to the Zenefits offering. Users praise broad HR administration and ease of access, while recurring criticism centers on support responsiveness and workflow friction. The score is based on 467 reviews.
